Dr. Pantas explains Invisalign
Three frequently asked patient questions answered concisely — from the minimum age to wearing time.
Invisalign aligners -- straight teeth made simple
Many people are troubled by crooked teeth, even in adulthood. Yet as adults with both feet firmly in life, they often do not dare to tackle the problem. Unfortunately, many people still believe that only visible, fixed braces can bring crooked teeth back into line. At our dental practice in Düsseldorf, we now offer you Invisalign aligners.
Invisalign stands for a unique system of transparent aligners for correcting misaligned teeth. It is a coordinated system of several individually manufactured aligners. Each is worn for a specific period before you move on to the next one. It is a simple approach — with no wires and no fixed braces. Together with Dr. Pantas, you can set out on your way to a new smile.
How the transparent Invisalign aligner system works
Everything begins with a visit to your dentist. At Dr. Pantas's dental centre in Düsseldorf, we are happy to advise you on correcting misaligned teeth. As these corrections fall within the field of orthodontics, several specialists work together here.
If you decide on Invisalign aligners, your teeth are first measured and photographs of your smile are taken. The measurements can be taken with a special 3D scanner. The digital method and the ClinCheck software make it possible to view your dentition online as a three-dimensional model. The individual steps and the final result can then be planned. This means you can see your new smile before it takes shape.
The data is then sent on to the Invisalign dental laboratories, where fully individual aligners are made from a transparent material. The SmartTrack material the aligners are made of was developed specifically for this system. It feels comfortable and makes the aligners easy to put in and take out. It fits snugly around your teeth and applies gentle but constant force to move them. Since every tooth line, jawline and gum contour is different from person to person, the aligners are individually manufactured and fitted.
How long are Invisalign aligners worn?
A varying number of Invisalign aligners can be made for you. Depending on how quickly you would like to enjoy your new smile, a new aligner can be inserted every one to two weeks. They are worn for 22 hours a day, day and night.
They can be taken out easily and discreetly for brushing your teeth or eating. Check-ups with your dentist in Düsseldorf then take place every six to eight weeks. This is how we make sure you get the smile you are hoping for. After three to six months, you will hardly recognise your smile.
Who are the transparent Invisalign aligners suitable for?
Braces or aligners may be necessary for a variety of reasons. These can be medical or health-related factors, or aesthetic considerations. The aim of wearing braces or aligners is to regulate the teeth and/or jaw in the long term. Both teenagers and adults can be treated with the virtually invisible Invisalign aligners. For teenagers, the Invisalign Teen system can be used.
This method is particularly suitable for correcting minor misalignments. Gaps between teeth, a single tilted tooth or crowding can be corrected without difficulty using the system. Even larger misalignments or orthodontic problems can in some cases be treated with the transparent aligners. Simply book an appointment with your dentist in Düsseldorf for individual advice.
Adults in particular are often looking for a discreet way of straightening their teeth. The transparent plastic aligners are barely visible, and your speech is not affected.
What should you bear in mind when wearing Invisalign aligners?
The duration of the correction can vary depending on the severity of the misalignment. Minor issues can sometimes be resolved in as little as three months.
While wearing the aligners, you should avoid chewing gum. You should also avoid eating and drinking highly acidic or dark drinks. The aligners can and should be taken out for eating. Afterwards, you should clean the aligner with clear water only and brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in.
The treatment is generally pain-free. In the first few hours after inserting a new aligner, you may feel a slight sensation of pressure, but this quickly subsides.
Another advantage of the transparent aligners: since you take them out for eating and dental care, you can carry on with your usual oral hygiene routine without restriction. This has a positive effect on your oral health.
