Veneers in Düsseldorf — your path to a radiant smile

Small imperfections on the front teeth — whether discolouration, a fine crack or slight misalignment — can affect your entire appearance. With veneers, we at the Dr. Pantas dental practice in Düsseldorf offer a well-established method of correcting such aesthetic concerns gently and durably.

As one of the three specialisations of our practice, veneer treatment combines dental-technical precision with high aesthetic standards. Every treatment is personally planned and overseen by Dr. med. dent. Efthymios Pantas (M.Sc. M.Sc.) — from the initial consultation to the finished result.

Veneers Düsseldorf — before and after: crooked, discoloured front teeth become a symmetrical, bright smile with wafer-thin ceramic veneers at Dr. Pantas

What are veneers?

Veneers are wafer-thin shells made of high-quality dental ceramic that are permanently bonded to the visible front surface of the teeth. They conceal discolouration, minor defects, gaps between teeth or irregular tooth shapes and create a harmonious, natural-looking overall appearance.

Unlike a crown, for which the entire tooth is ground down, veneers preserve the majority of the healthy tooth substance. This makes them a particularly tooth-preserving form of restoration within aesthetic dentistry.

Types of veneers

Depending on your initial situation and treatment goal, different types of veneers are available:

  • Prep veneers (classic ceramic veneers): The tooth surface is minimally ground down (approx. 0.3 — 0.7 mm) to create space for the ceramic shell. Prep veneers are suitable for more significant corrections of colour, shape and alignment.
  • No-prep veneers (e.g. Lumineers): Particularly thin shells (approx. 0.2 — 0.3 mm) that in many cases can be bonded on with little or no grinding at all. Suitable for lighter corrections and well-preserved tooth substance.
  • Composite veneers: A less expensive option made of composite resin that is applied directly to the tooth. Their durability is shorter than that of ceramic, but they are suitable for minor corrections.

Which option is suitable for your situation is something we discuss in a personal consultation.

Advantages of veneers

  • Preservation of tooth substance: Considerably less grinding than for a crown — the natural tooth structure is largely preserved
  • Natural aesthetics: High-quality dental ceramic imitates the translucency and colour of natural teeth
  • Durability: With good care, ceramic veneers can last for many years
  • Versatility: Correction of discolouration, gaps between teeth, irregular tooth shapes and slight misalignments in a single treatment
  • Biocompatibility: Dental ceramic is very well tolerated and does not discolour
  • Fast results: As a rule, only two to three appointments are needed

Who are veneers suitable for?

Veneers may be considered for a range of aesthetic and functional concerns:

  • Stubborn discolouration: When teeth whitening is not sufficient — for example with tetracycline staining or non-vital teeth
  • Gaps between teeth (diastema): Small gaps between the front teeth can be visually closed with veneers
  • Slight misalignments: Crooked or rotated teeth where orthodontic treatment is not desired
  • Chipped or worn teeth: Minor defects on the incisal edges can be aesthetically corrected
  • Unsightly fillings: Visible composite fillings in the front-tooth area can be concealed with veneers
  • Irregular tooth shape: Teeth that are too small, too pointed or asymmetrical are given a harmonious shape

The prerequisites are sufficient tooth substance and healthy gums. In cases of untreated periodontitis or severe grinding (bruxism), the underlying cause must be treated first.

Treatment procedure

Veneer treatment at our practice takes place in several carefully planned steps:

  • Consultation and diagnostics
In a detailed initial consultation, we discuss your wishes and examine your dental situation. Using digital diagnostics, we assess whether veneers are the appropriate restoration for you and explain the various options.
  • Planning and shade selection
Together with you, we determine the desired tooth shade and shape. Our in-house dental laboratory works closely with the treatment team, so individual adjustments can be discussed directly on site.
  • Preparation of the teeth
Depending on the type of veneer, the tooth surface is minimally ground down. With no-prep veneers, this step may not be necessary. A precise digital or conventional impression forms the basis for fabrication in the laboratory.
  • Temporary restoration
While your veneers are being made in the laboratory, you receive a temporary restoration to protect the prepared teeth.
  • Fitting the veneers
The finished ceramic shells are tried in, adjusted if necessary and permanently bonded to the teeth with a special adhesive. A final fine polish ensures a natural result.
  • Follow-up check
After fitting, we check the fit, bite and aesthetics. We are also happy to give you comprehensive advice on care.

Veneers, whitening or crowns — which is right for me?

Depending on your initial situation, various treatments may be considered. As a rough guide:

  • Teeth whitening: Suitable for surface discolouration and the wish for lighter teeth. The natural tooth shape remains unchanged.
  • Veneers: Suitable when, in addition to colour, the shape, alignment or minor defects are to be corrected — with maximum preservation of tooth substance.
  • Crowns: Necessary for severely damaged teeth that require a more extensive restoration.

In a personal consultation, we explain which restoration makes sense for your individual case.

Durability and care

Ceramic veneers are notable for their long lifespan. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, they can last 10 to 15 years or longer. Composite veneers generally have a shorter lifespan of around 5 to 10 years.

For long-lasting results, we recommend:

  • Careful daily dental care with a soft toothbrush and dental floss
  • Regular professional teeth cleaning (recommended twice a year)
  • Avoiding extreme stresses (e.g. cracking nuts with the front teeth, nail biting)
  • If you grind your teeth: wearing a bite splint to protect the veneers
  • Regular check-up appointments at our practice

Costs and financing

Veneers are a purely aesthetic restoration and therefore a private treatment. German statutory health insurance generally does not cover the costs. The costs depend on the number of veneers, the chosen material (ceramic or composite) and the individual effort involved.

Before treatment begins, we provide you with a transparent cost estimate and advise you on financing options and payment by instalments. Private supplementary insurance may cover part of the costs, depending on the tariff.

In-house dental laboratory — Made in Germany

A decisive advantage for your veneer treatment: our practice has its own dental laboratory with a German master dental technician. For you, this means:

  • Short distances: Dentist and dental technician work under one roof — colour, shape and fit are coordinated directly
  • Highest quality: All veneers are produced to German quality standards — no imported work
  • Individual adjustment: If required, the dental technician can carry out the shade matching directly at the chairside
  • Faster completion: Without shipping routes, waiting times are shorter

This interplay of dental experience and dental-technical craftsmanship is the foundation for precisely fitting and aesthetically sophisticated results.

Frequently asked questions about veneers

How much do veneers cost in Düsseldorf?
The cost of veneers depends on the material, the number of teeth and the individual effort involved. Ceramic veneers per tooth are generally in the three-figure to low four-figure range. Composite veneers are less expensive. We provide you with a transparent cost estimate in advance.
How long do veneers last?
With good care and regular check-ups, ceramic veneers can last 10 to 15 years or longer. Composite veneers have a lifespan of around 5 to 10 years. Good oral hygiene and regular professional teeth cleaning are decisive.
Are veneers harmful to the teeth?
Veneers are among the most tooth-preserving forms of restoration. With classic prep veneers, only a thin layer of enamel is removed (0.3 — 0.7 mm). No-prep veneers often require no removal of tooth substance at all. Compared with a crown, considerably more natural tooth substance is preserved.
Can veneers be removed again?
No-prep veneers can generally be removed, as the tooth underneath remains unchanged. With prep veneers, a thin layer of enamel has been removed — the tooth will then require a new restoration (a veneer or a crown). The decision should therefore be carefully considered.
Are veneers covered by health insurance?
Veneers are an aesthetic private treatment and are generally not covered by German statutory health insurance. Private supplementary insurance may reimburse a proportion, depending on the tariff. We are happy to advise you on costs and financing options.
How do veneers differ from teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening lightens the natural tooth shade but does not change the shape of the teeth. Veneers can correct not only the colour but also the shape, alignment and minor defects. If colour is your only concern, whitening is often sufficient — for more extensive corrections, veneers are the more suitable solution.
What does the treatment involve?
The treatment usually comprises two to three appointments: consultation and planning, preparation and impression-taking (with a temporary restoration), and finally the fitting of the finished veneers. The ceramic shells are custom-made for you in our own dental laboratory.
Why choose Dr. Pantas in Düsseldorf for veneers?
Dr. Pantas combines more than 25 years of experience with an in-house dental laboratory. Dentist and master dental technician work directly together — this allows individual adjustments to colour and shape and shortens the treatment time. All ceramic work is produced to German quality standards.
